Prescribed Book

The prescribed textbook for The Embodied Mind is Antonio Damasio’s (1994) influential book, Descartes’ Error. This book is available in a number of printings and from a number of sources, including online bookshops. Current printings of the book include one published by Vintage (UK) (ISBN-13: 978-0099501640) and one published by Penguin (US) (ISBN-13: 978-0143036227); but older editions/printings that might be available second-hand are equally acceptable. The University's bookshop will be stocking the book at approximately R152.

While we will only have an opportunity to read parts of this important book - most of the core readings for the course will be found in the reading pack - it will make a valuable addition to your bookshelf (along with other works rich in case study material, such as Oliver Sacks’ The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and his more recent Musicophilia).
